Family Promise: Support Congregation

Family Promise is an interfaith organization that provides emergency shelter, basic needs and case management to homeless families with children. Most importantly, they keep families together! Families will be housed at Central Christian Church in St. Petersburg. You can learn more about Family Promise by visiting their websites: https://familypromise.org and https://fppinellas.org/

Family Promise utilizes both Host Congregations (to stay overnight with shelter guests, provide meals, and have fellowship activities with the guests) and Support Congregations (to fill in those volunteer roles when a host congregation cannot fill all roles itself). We are becoming a Support Congregation for Family Promise.

What does being a Support Congregation involve? We will be paired with a Host Congregation. One week per quarter, that Host Congregation will be on-duty at Family Promise, serving dinner, serving as overnight hosts, and having breakfast and a to-go lunch ready for the next day. (Shelter guests are transported by vans to work and school, or they spend the days at the Day Center at Central Christian Church.) As a Support Congregation, we will be called in to provide support in the form of extra volunteers. Volunteer roles include assisting with meal preparation, spending time with the children in the program, setup, cleanup, and other duties.

We are currently looking for a team of 15-25 people who would be willing to volunteer once per quarter with Family Promise. If you have more questions, please reach our to Pat Siegling from our Missions Team.

If you are ready to commit, the first step is to fill out a volunteer application and return it to Pat Siegling, letting her know that you’d like to join our Skycrest Support Congregation Team.
