Dear Skycrest Family,

By the time you get this email, I'll be on a plane, along with our lay leader, Barb McQuain, to Leawood, Kansas for Church of the Resurrection's Leadership Institute. We've taken our leadership team to this event before and learned a lot. This year, COR is focusing the Leadership Institute on the future of our denomination and the deep divide we are facing regarding marriage and ordination of LGBTQ+ persons.

Barb and I will be learning more about the various plans that will come before this year's General Conference, and how those decisions may affect us. We will also be praying, worshiping, and networking with other attendees from Florida and around the entire denomination.

I'll be back in plenty of time to preach on Sunday, and am looking forward to the second week of The Dark Side.

Last Sunday, we explored what Scripture says about Satan, or the Devil. The Biblical authors assumed unseen spiritual realities, both good and evil. Scripture describes an adversary to God, Satan, who works against God's purposes, incites doubt, tempts us to sin, and reminds us of our guilt. Some Christians interpret Satan as a more literal, personal figure. Others see him as more of a personification of evil. Either way... Scripture is also clear that Satan does not control us; we can stand strong and resist, and that one day evil will be defeated by God. If you missed the sermon, its available online at www.skycrest.net/sermons

Up next Sunday, we'll be learning what the Bible has to say about hell. It is a real, literal place? Who goes there? Why would a loving God sentence anyone to eternal separation and torment?

It's sure to be an interesting one! Join us at 9:45 a.m. (Modern) or 11:00 a.m. (Traditional).

I've gotta go get packed for the trip!
