Who wrote the Bible?

It seems this question has come up several times in youth group, and because it is such a complex and deep subject, we have brushed over the surface without ever really answering the question.  So for the month of February, we are going to look at the biblical authors and try to shed some light on what for many of us, is a mystery!

Feb. 1 - Torah - the first 5 books of the Old Testament.

Feb. 7 - the historical books (Judges, Kings, etc.)

Feb 14 - the prophetic books (Isaiah, Jonah, etc.) and the wisdom books (Psalms, Proverbs, etc.)

Feb. 22 - No Youth - Ash Wednesday - service at 6:30 in sanctuary

Feb. 28 - The New Testament

Mar. 7 - Who decided what went into the Bible and why do Jews, Catholics, and other Christians have different Bibles?

Then March 14, 21, and 28 we will focus on a Lenten study (more to come on that in March).

Confirmation Class - Sunday Mornings

A new Sunday morning class has started for our Middle-Schoolers.  The class is at 11:00am, after the Modern Worship Service, and ends around noon.  The class is a "confirmation" class, in that is is designed   as a stepping stone for becoming a member in the church.  It's broken into three parts:

KNOW YOUR STORY...
Encounter the faith narrative from creation to Christianity.
CONFIRM YOUR FAITH...
Embrace the essential beliefs and practices of The United Methodist Church.
LIVE YOUR COMMITMENT.
Embody the confirmation vows and embark on the Christian discipleship journey.

The Credo confirmation program is not your conventional classroom experience! It brings worship, Sunday school, Bible study, service, and church ministries into confirmation.  This program will last from January 8th until the first week in October, when we will have an overnight retreat, and then youth will have the option of joining the church the following Sunday (October 7th) by taking full membership vows.

Don't miss out on this!

JAN. 20-21ST - LOCK-IN!

We are having a Lock-In at the church! The lock-in begins at 7:00pm (note time change!) Friday, January 20th. Youth do not have school that day. We will be focusing on prayer, and doing something special for the middle schoolers that choose to be part of the new confirmation class. We will also have food, games, and plenty of craziness! Rest up before hand, you won't get much sleep this night. :-)  Permission slip can be found by clicking "Youth Forms" to the right.  Please return those to Becky no later that Wednesday, January 18th.
Also on Friday, earlier in the day, Ted Rokitowski (Children's Director) is painting the large kids room upstairs in the education building at Skycrest.  Anyone who is available to help may come at any time between 1:00pm and 6:00pm to help paint.  If you help paint, dinner will be provided at 6:00, and you can stay until the lock-in starts at 7:00pm.

·         Lock in begins at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 19th and ends on Sunday morning, March 20th, at 6:00 AM. Parents will drop their students off promptly at 4:00 PM Saturday and pick them up on Sunday morning at 6:00 AM sharp. If your student is driving we need you to write this on this form and let us know who else your student will bring home. We must have parental consent of all passengers. Parents of students getting a ride to or from the Lock-in from another student must state this on the form.

·         Cost of the Lock-in is $20 per student. Checks should be made payable to St. Luke’s Youth Group.

·         All students will go to Saturday evening mass at 5:00 PM.

·         No food or drink should be brought to the Lock-in. (Exception: If you want to bake a homemade dessert please do!) Food and drinks will be provided. This is included in the $20 fee. All bags brought to the lock-in are subject to search by the Chaperones. If your son or daughter has specific dietary needs, please notify Charlie Spencer so we can make necessary preparations.

·         No medication will be allowed unless the parent notifies the Chaperones in advance.

·         No one is allowed to leave the Lock-in until a parent picks them up at 6:00 AM Sunday Morning

·         Cell phones should be off all night. You will not be allowed to use your cell phone during this event. This is to encourage full participation in the scheduled events.

·         All food and drink must be kept in the main area of the hall. No food or drink is allowed in the Gym or in the back rooms of the hall.

·         We will provide two sleeping areas for those who choose to sleep late in the evening. There will be separate areas for the young men and young women. There is no commingling in these areas.

·         Treat all property and games with respect. Students and their parents are responsible for any damage they cause.

DEC. 11TH - CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

Skycrest UMC is celebrating Christmas with a musical production on December 11th during a combined service at 10:30a.  The children and youth will be participating by dressing as the figures in the Christmas nativity scene.  The Wednesday before, we will have a dress rehearsal from 7:30pm-9:00pm for all who are able to make it, immediately following our normal youth time.  The Children will be rehearsing during Sunday mornings, so parents do not worry about bringing them out that late.   Please let Becky know if you will be there, so we can be sure that all parts are filled.
