Volunteer Opportunities

There are many different ways you can get involved and help out Skycrest and the community around us.  Here are some of the current volunteer opportunities in our area:

  • Sunday Morning Worship Volunteers - Would you like to serve Skycrest as a greeter, usher, communion server, bus driver, snake provider, or kid's ministry volunteer?  Indicate your interest on the blue connection card and we will put you in touch with the right person.
  • Birthday Card Ministry Group - If you'd enjoy conversation with a small group while writing birthday cards to our church family, then check out our Birthday Card ministry group.  They will be meeting on Saturday morning, May 13th, at 10:30am in the Library.  Contact Thea Dunmire (727-492-8367) with questions or to sign-up.
  • Nursery Ministry Volunteers - We are looking for volunteers to serve in our growing nursery ministry, alongside a trained staff member, on Sunday mornings. This provides better care for the children, and puts us in alignment with our Child-Youth Protection Policies. If you would be willing to help care for our church's youngest guests, please sign up on your blue connection card, or see Thelma Adair, our Nursery Team Leader.
  • Do You Sing or Play an Instrument - If you enjoy singing or playing an instrument, we'd love for you to join us in the Choir or Praise Band.  The Modern Worship Band plays at the 9:45am service and practices for about an hour after that.  The Chancel Choir sings at the 11:00am service and practices on Wednesday nights.  We are also looking for volunteers to help run the sound system at the modern service.  Let us know on your blue card if you are interested and we will get you in touch with the right person.
  • SCDC Volunteers Needed - We are always in need of volunteers to help with our preschool: playing with kids, assisting teachers, and tutoring students who need extra help.  One hour a week can make a huge difference!  Click here to get the volunteer information packet, and turn it in to the SCDC office.
  • Homeless Empowerment Program (HEP) - HEP is always looking for volunteers to help serve meals, work in the office, tutor children, and more.  Several Skycrest members volunteer there regularly.  Contact Doug and Amy Bradley at from our Missions Committee, or contact HEP directly, for more information.

Join our Email Lists: Mid-Week Message and Prayer Group

Would you like Skycrest updates delivered straight to your email inbox?   Click here to join our email lists.  The Mid-Week Message list will send you a weekly email (on Wednesdays) from our Pastor.  The Prayer Group email is sent 1-2 times weekly, and includes the prayer requests that have been submitted to the church that week; this is also a good way to stay informed about those who are sick or hospitalized from our congregation, so that you can pray, send cards, or visit.

In the United Methodist Church, we baptize infants, children, and adults who have never been baptized before.  If you are interested in finding out more about baptism for yourself or a family member, please contact Pastor Emily

Join Skycrest UMC

Are you interested in taking the next step in your commitment to Christ and to Skycrest UMC?  We would love for you to become a member of our church!   Joining the church is an affirmation of your faith, and a promise to support Skycrest UMC through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.  Simply contact Pastor Emily to indicate your interest, and she will set up a time to meet with you (possibly in a group, if there are several who want to join) to discuss details.
