Ditty Bags

It’s time to begin thinking about collecting items for this worthy cause. Monetary donations are always appreciated to help with this worthwhile project.  Checks made out to Skycrest United Methodist Women may be left in the office in care of Jean Perriman.  Please consider shopping throughout the summer and pick up needed items when they go on sale.  Your purchased items may be left in the church office.  Included is a list of needed items. Due to a desperate need we hope to increase our contribution from 75 to 80 bags.

Personal care: regular size bars of soap, washcloths, adults or children's toothbrushes, tubes of toothpaste,  small packets of Kleenex, razors, deodorant, pairs of adult tube socks, children’s socks, band-aids, boxes of 5 minimum size sanitary napkins.

School supplies: ball point pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, boxes of 8 or 16 count crayons or nontoxic washable markers, glue sticks or bottles of Elmer’s glue, composition or small notebooks.

Additional supplies: small/pocket size Bibles or Upper Room Devotionals, gallon size zip-lock bags

Only new and alcohol free items please

    Youth Summer Plans!

The youth of Skycrest will continue meeting on Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM for the summer.  We will begin “Monday Movie Madness” this month, watching movies each Monday at 12:00 PM.  In addition to our weekly meetings, several of the youth will be spending a week at Warren W. Willis United Methodist Camp in Leesburg, Florida.  Plans are also being made for several pool days as well as volunteering.  Members of the church are encouraged to help out in any way they can!  Contact Faith Van Buskirk Feldt if you feel God calling you to help with the youth this summer!

Missions Committee

The Missions Committee would like to invite you to be a part of our August project to help the “Clothes to Kids” organization.  This group, which provides five complete outfits yearly to needy school children in Pinellas County, is preparing for the coming school year by collecting clothing during the summer months.  Their most desperate need is for NEW  underwear and socks for both girls and boys.  Keep in mind these are for students from kindergarten – 12th grade so all sizes are needed,  You can help a child by bringing underwear and socks to church each Sunday in August or to the church office during the week.  Please help us extend God’s love to children in our community who need a helping hand.

Prayer Topic for July

The leadership of Skycrest is asking all members and friends of Skycrest to meditate and pray on the same topic each month. In the Skyword and weekly bulletin you will be given a focus topic, scripture, and thought. We encourage you to join in uniting Skycrest to focus on God and Jesus Christ and what we should be doing.

         Topic: Reflections

               Scripture: Matthew 5:14

              Focus question:

What sign and signal does your community see from your congregation?

I wish to thank all my “Skycrest Family” for the many cards, the phone calls and especially the prayers during my recent illness.  They meant so much to me.

To the congregation of Skycrest UMC,

THANK YOU so much!  It has been humbling to receive so much love and encouragement from you as I received my full ordination from the United Methodist Church in June.  For every one of you who said a kind word to me, wrote a meaningful note to me, said a prayer of strength for me, generously shared with me, and raised a ruckus in Lakeland at the service of ordination…I thank God for you!  I am ridiculously blessed by God to serve this congregation and to be able to call you my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ
